Switzerland/Italy Trip

Sunday, Sep 7

We left Engelberg and drove on down through the Alps to Italy. We went through the Gothard Tunnel. It was raining, and there were tremendous waterfalls off the mountainsides. They were impressive!

A whole mountain of waterfalls

When we drove into Italy, the weather cleared up and became sunny. The drive went well, and there were no delays. The castle in Sinio looked the same as it did 2 years ago, only their grapevines had grown up over the trellis. There are now three cats instead of just Pino. The others are Luigi and Enrico. They're adorable. Enrico is a kitten and chased us around playing.

On the left, Castello di Sinio, where we'll stay while we're in Italy.
The tower on the right is the village church.

Our room at the castle. We stayed in the "Chapel Room," a
room from the time the castle was built in 1142.

The castle courtyard. Still beautiful with flowers.

We sat on the patio and sipped some wine, then went to dinner at the castle at 8:00 pm. We ate duck, steak with truffles (although they're not called that until after September 15), and pheasant. The desserts were fantastic, the molten chocolate cake, especially.

The castle patio area. It's a great place to eat breakfast.

Pat bought a 1961 Borolo wine, which was fabulous. We started out with a Nebbiolo, then opened the Borolo. Dinner lasted until 12:30. It was a wonderful meal, with great conversation and entertaining jokes from Jay.
